We have been on location for the past month creating movie magic with the team from Legendary Pictures for the Hollywood blockbuster franchise film, Pacific Rim: Uprising.
With another month of shooting remaining, the production is pushing our team to continually innovate to ensure we capture the most creative and impactful moments imaginable.
Working as a standalone unit within the production, our drone team have proven to be a significant tool for DOP Danny Mindel and 2nd Unit Director Tom Harper to capture awe inspiring footage that will provide the VFX team with never before captured angles – setting up epic battles between the Kaiju and Jeagers.
We are flying our advanced X8 40kg craft, carrying an Alexi Mini and a range of wide and close focal length lenses.
Our Chief Drone Cinematographer, Stephen Oh said “working with a world class team on this project has really pushed us to continue to evolve our technical capability and operational processes to ensure we capture the most imaginative and first-of-kind footage possible.”
We were very privileged and grateful to be granted the first drone permits in over 2 years by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (now known as Property NSW) to fly within the restricted airspace of Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House.
“Our entire support team has been working overtime to ensure we secure permits around Australia to allow us to fly at night, within restricted airspace close to major airports, around the Sydney Opera House, from on-top buildings and down major roads within Sydney and Brisbane CBD. We know this is made possible because of our strong safety record, but also because of the dedication of our entire business to support our customer’s productions however possible to make things happen.” said Oh.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is scheduled to be released on February 23, 2018, by Universal Pictures and Warner Bros.
